My Best Bite II

So this isn’t exactly from this week, but I have to go back into my food archives and share this, I just can’t refuse.

When I was in Northern Michigan in late May, I *finally* was able to try local morels. Morel mushrooms are a delicacy that can be found in woody areas in the spring, and Northern Michigan is one of the best breeding grounds for these magical little guys.

They aren’t cheap, do realize that — but they are worth every cent. I am a pretty big mushroom fan typically, but the morels blew my early thoughts out of the water. I had them at LuLu’s Bistro in Bellaire which has also become one of my new favorite places. They were served sauteed, with a light custard, greens and crustini to bring it all together. Man, I wish I would have ordered more. Even though morel season has just about come to a close, if you can still get a hold of some of these, do yourself a favor and eat it.

My Best Bite I

In the hopes that I will start to utilize my blog more, not just when I go out of town, I am launching a new weekly update! From this point on, each Friday, I will be posting My Best Bite.

Here I will attempt to select a favorite edible from the past week or beyond, and share it. Please feel free to weigh in on thoughts, or post your own favorite as well!

I also hope to integrate some of my yelping on board too. Let ‘er rip!

To kick off the series, I am going with one of the best hot weather snacks I have had this season! Zaytinya has come to be one of my favorite places in the Penn Quarter area of DC. The area that is littered with a mixture of over-priced and chain restaurants, but Zaytinya is a solid choice. And one of the many great offerings from celeb chef Jose Andres. They specialize in Mediterranean tapas, small plates and everything I have ever tasted has been incredible. This week’s My Best Bite by far was the chilled cucumber soup.

I know chilled soup isn’t everyone’s… cup of tea (or bowl of soup?) but on a hot day, I find it incredible. They serve this yum up with a dollop of greek yogurt, dill and peppers, making it quite divine. Try it out!
